PSQIA statute is a voluntary reporting system to enhance the data available to assess and resolve patient safety and health care quality issues.It also provides for the establishment of Patient Safety Organization (PSO) to receive reports of patient safety events or concerns from health care providers and to provide analysis of these events to the reporting providers. To the extent that PSO collect and analyze protected health information for HIPPA covered entities.They are considered business associated under the HIPAA privacy rules.

2)HIPPA audit is conducted to track progress on compliance and to identify areas where improvement is needed.It also help to avoid expensive violations and fines and to secure protected health information.Providers should conduct a risk assessment and take steps to prepare for HIPAA compliance audits.
