7. One method of getting a tight fit, say of a metal peg in a hole in a metal block, is to manufacture the peg slighty larger than the hole. The peg is then inserted when at a different temperature than the block. Should the block be hotter or colder than the peg during insertion? Explain your answer.

7. Concept - Any object expands when it is heated. When block is hotter comparison to peg, then, its dimension has increased. In this time, peg is inserted into it so that when block going to colder, then, dimensions (like length, width and height) of the block will decrease and it fit tightly with peg. Thus, during insertion of the peg, block should be hotter than peg 15. Since, air contains water molecules. In other word, we can say, air is the mixture of water-vapors and different gas molecules. When these water molecules comes close to the colder region like near the cold object, then, water molecules loss their kinetic energy and stick to the surface of cold object. As a result of it, they change their phase from gas to liquid, called condensation, and they make water drops on the surface of cold object. We can see this situation, when we take the ice on the glass, then, some drops of water stick to the surface of glass. This happens due to condensation.
