A 25-yo man with chronic Schizophrenia was living in a single room in a downtown hotel. He has always had difficulty managing his disability check and often runs out of money before the next check. He has difficulty consistently paying for transportation, food, and medications. The client has a fixed delusion that involves the manager of his hotel stealing money from his check and occasionally becomes verbally and rarely even physically threatening to the manager. When this occurs, the manager calls the police, who bring the client to the local emergency department where he is evaluated and typically admitted to the psychiatric unit at the hospital. After a brief inpatient stabilization, the client is usually discharged back to the hotel, where the cycle repeats itself every few months.
Chronic schizophrenia patient needs proper treatment to deal
with their mental illness. Individual psychotherapy can manage
their symptoms. cognitive behavior therapy change person thinking
and behavior. CBT with medication help manages their delusions.
Cognitive enhancement therapy helps people to recognize their
problem and help to be more attentive. Social support services
provide a quality life for patients and families.
Professional education for the patient changes their attitude. It
also empowers the family and patient. social interaction is
important when providing education for the patient to improve their
knowledge. assess the patient knowledge about their mental
condition and involve the family in this teaching process.
Education should have a goal to improve patient understanding of
their illness and should encourage health promotion behavior.
Provide psychoeducational interventions and support groups for the
family and patient it meets the cultural needs of them, it improves
psychosocial health and reduce the patient risk of readmission and
improves family knowledge about coping with the illness.
