Atenolol is an antihypertensive drug classified as a beta blocker.

The following are the things needed to be assessed or checked by a nurse before administration

  • Any allergy or hypersensitivity to the combination of this drug
  • Monitor blood glucose level as it may decrease blood sugar and trigger a patient for getting type 2 diabetes
  • Check the patient vital signs (BP supine and sitting position both arms ,pulse) because this may lead to severe hypotension and bradycardia.
  • assess EGG for bradydysarrythmia,and blockages
  • Check for patients any complaint of headache because this drug can cause headache
  • Check whether the patient is on any other NSAID
