5) 1% FeCl3 test is used for identification of phenols.

To give positive result with 1% FeCl3, compound should have -OH group on benzene ring.

Phenols form a complex with Feric ions.

6 PhOH + FeCl3 ------------> H3 [ Fe(OPh)6] + 3HCl

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Among the 3 given compounds, only Acetaminophen has -OH group on benzene ring.

Therefore, Acetaminophen shows positive test with 1% FeCl3.
