Professional hunters in Wyoming locate a herd of elk and the carnage begins. Three days later they have managed to kill 15 elk and spend the next 48 hrs skinning and cleaning the carcasses for shipment by wagon to Laramie, WY for sale of hides and meat.

• Upon arriving in Laramie 10 days later, the hunters sell their booty and spread out across town to drink and womanize at local brothels.
• Within 2 weeks following the elk slaughter, 4 of the men experience an itchy sore similar to an insect bite, which blisters and then forms a black, painless ulcer which is surrounded by significant swelling. Within a 2 week period following the emergence of these symptoms a scab forms and falls off. There are no follow-up symptoms.
• However, 4 other men who ate elk meat began showing the following symptoms with 7 days of eating the elk meat: fever, bloody diarrhea and ultimately shock and death within 10 days. This and the above disease outbreak are related.

The first explanation indicates the disease is Cutaneous anthrax, a zoonotic disease, caused by Bacillus anthracis. The cutaneous anthrax caused by spore get into skin by a cut. This can happen when the person handled with skin, wool and hives etc. That was happened in this case.

In this case, the disease may be Gastrointestinal anthrax, they were having symptoms including bloody diarrhea. The hunters consumed the meat infected with anthrax bacillus, induced GI symptoms and ultimately death.
