Answer #1

The yellow green discharge from the eye is suggestive of bacterial conjunctivitis.

Paths of the disease

The flora reaches the surface of the eye layer, normally the epithelial layer of the eye should prevent it from entering the adenexa and the surface of the eye. When this fails the organism colonizes in the surface and causing infection. Hence the primary defence cannot control the bacterial growth. Now the secondary defence mechanism of the host responds and increasing the tear or lacrimation and blinking of the eye.

Drug of choice

  • Topical antibiotics
  • Povidine -iodine 1.25% eye drops are the most proffered drug to treat bacterial conjunctivitis

In case if the infection is not treated it may lead to loss of vision and transmission of infection to inner organs are possible.

Side effects

  • Burning of eyes after instillation
  • temporary blurred vision
  • Rash, pain ,swelling ,loss of infection in case of extreme adverse effect

1.The main plan of care is to prevent further infection and complications

Strict asepsis while doing procedure

2.The education needed in regards to meication administration are

  • In still the drops as per order (no excess instillation of the medication in cars the child tears out )
  • Hand washing before and after instilling medication
  • Do not touch the nozzle because this can contaminate the medication
  • The mother should be encouraged to provide the child with adequate nutrition
  • The pillow and sheets of the child has to be cleansed with hot water
  • The child should not be given more number of toys to play because this can increase the risk of more infection to the child
