The solar system (and earth) is located about 25000 light - years to the galactic center and 25000 light years auxly from the rim. So basically, if you were to think of the milky way as a big record, we would be the spot that's roughly halfway between the center and the edge Milky way has two major spiral arms Perseus arm and the scutum - centaurs arm - with several smaller arms and spurs. The solar system is located in between the two arms called the onion - Cygnus arm. This arm measures 3500 light years across and is 10000 light years in length, where it breaks off from the Sagittarius arm. \r\n Hubble galaxies classification scheme Edwin Hubble developed a galaxy classification scheme consisting of four types, Three of these types are represented in the 'tuning fork' diagram below Elliptical galaxies An elliptical galaxy shows no spiral structure and can vary frm almost round crobat Hubble called EO) to almost cigar shaped (called E7)
