Tuberculosis (TB) is an opportunistic infectious disease caused by the bacteria "Mycobacterium tuberculosis."

Mantoux test is a type of tuberculosis skin test, in which 0.1 ml of purified protein derivative (PPD) tuberculin is injected through the intradermal route. It is used to diagnose the pulmonary infection (tuberculosis). It is considered safe throughout the pregnancy.

The positive reaction in tuberculin skin test indicates the previous exposure to tuberculin antigen because the antibodies already present in the body produce a large sized rash at the site of injection.
