so instead of 4s2 3d9, we go for 4s1 3d10 where both orbitals are either half filled or fully filled

Noble gas having lesser electron than Cu and closest to it is Argon (Ar)

Number of electron in Ar = 18

electronic configuration of Ar is: 1s2 2s2 2p6 3s2 3p6

So, electronic configuration of Cu in noble gas form is: [Ar] 3d10 4s1
