Answers to question 63 and 64 are correct.
65. a. Three things that were wrong in the survey are :-
-> The survey is conducted at Thanksgiving weekend, which is not a normal time and tourist surge is expected at that time. Hence number of babies on flights is supposed to be more around that time than at most other times around the calendar.
->The survey only is performed on 6 flights between one route. However to get a better estimate one should conduct surveys from a lot of routes to get a better estimate. Surveying from one single route one might come to false conclusions.
-> The survey takes into account only 6 flights, however we do not know if that is enough to get a good enough estimate of the number of babies in a flight.
Three ways the survey could be improved upon are as follows:-
-> The survey must be conducted at a regular week and not some holiday period when people tend to travel more often.
-> The survey must be conducted using flights from not just one route but along many other routes. This would give us a better estimate of the quantity we are interested in.
-> It is absurd to randomly survey just 6 flights. Now that we have the standard error of the sample from the previous survey. We can use it to determine required sample size to get a good enough estimate.
71. This is an example of stratified sampling. Here the entire population is divided into stratas such that each and every population unit falls under one and only one strata. Now from each strata we randomly sample a particular number of units.
