Question

I tried to solve this problem by myself but keep getting the wrong result. The formula I have been using is that W= P(Vb-Va).

The volume and pressure of a gas are 3.30 m3 and 2.10 atm, respectively. a) If this gas expands to twice its initial volume while the pressure is constant, determine the work done on the gas 702009 What is the difference between work done on the gas and work done by the gas? Check units for consistency. 1 (b) On the other hand, if this gas is compressed to two-fifths its initial volume while the pressure is constant, determine the work done on the gas

kingAnsweranswered this

a)

workdone = p*del(V)
W = - 2.1*1.01*10^5 * (6.6-3.3)
W = - 6.9993*10^5 J

b)

W = 2.1*1.01*10^5 * (3.3-1.32)
4.1995*10^5 J
