EFFECTS OF ALCOHOL AND SMOKING ON HEALTH

  • Increased risk for mouth, throat, and liver cancer. Chances of leukemia, cancer of kidneys, pancreas, bladder, and uterus are also seen.
  • Cardiovascular diseases such as stroke, heart attacks, and narrowing of arteries.
  • Chronic bronchitis and dyspnea.
  • Elevates blood pressure and cholesterol proportion in blood.
  • Decreases bone thickness which is commonly seen in women.
  • Shoot up the risk of infertility, preterm delivery, stillborn fetus, and infant death syndrome.

WAYS TO MINIMIZE USAGE AMONG ABUSERS

  • Seek advice from a health professional to participate in nicotine replacement therapy which includes using nicotine gum, nasal sprays instead.
  • Avoid situations or places that motivate smoking and alcohol consumption like parties.
  • Distract them when there is a longing for alcohol and smoking like chewing gums, engaging in physical activity, etc.
  • Try deep breathing exercises, meditation and other techniques to relax from stress as stress leads to smoking and alcoholism
