Yale-New Haven Hospital pursued organization-wide method changes…standardizing the discharge process, using status boards for visual control, and accuracy and timeliness of data entry” (see the Pursuing High-Reliability section). Your CMO says, “We should do that here.” What should she do to get started?
The organisation wide method changes are those changes which are made in an organisation in order to make it work more efficiently and properly which are thought to be better than before.
Before making any kind of changes in the organisation it is very important to understand the change management. It is the way of understanding that any changes that has been made by you in your organisation, team or any kind kind of processes are being applied properly and is being maintained in a better way. So before making any change you should make sure to understand the change management for the betterment of the organisation.
There are 9 principles which has to be followed during the change being made in any organisation. They are as follows:
- proper defining of the change: it is very important to define the change that you want to bring to the organisation and is necessary for others to understand it.
- try to keep the change simple: the change that you are trying to bring should be very simple and shuttle. It should not be very complicated which others will not be able to understand and function accordingly.
- always start from the top: which means we should always make sure to inform about the change that you are making in the organisation to be known by the top authorities before you inform about it to the employees. It is very important to make sure that all the people around you are agreeing for the change and are accepting it.
- should not forget about the front lines as well: once the upper authorities are informed and has been approved the front lines are necessary to be brought into our side. The employees are the most important part of this change and hence they are the ones who are very much required to be involved and informed.
- using of company culture as an advantage: if we try to understand the culture of our company and how it works and how the people work, their likes and dislikes, strengths and weaknesses, their communicating patterns, etc we can use it as a base of bringing our change by planning according to it.
- you should connect the change not only in strategic but also in emotional basis: once you decide to bring the change try to convince the people or the employees. The strategic motivation is not enough it should be done emotionally and personally as well.
- you should encourage the employees to shift their behaviours and not just the actions: the employees will be informed about their changes but only doing that is not enough to stop them from going back to their previous strategy. Hence we should motivate them and should explain them about it.
Therefore , these principles should be utilized by the CMO in order to initiate the changes that she wants to bring in the organisation.
