National business environments can certainly influence a firm's decision to standardize or differentiate its product. If the firm is selling a same or a similar product that is already existing in the market, then a differentiation strategy might not work. For example, iPhones sold by Apple have a standard specifications across the globe since the design and the software in its uniform. It cannot differentiate between iPhones for each country since consumers in say China want the same iPhone as used in the US. However, if the local firms offer a different product than what the multinational firm offers in its home country, then the product will have to be differentiated. For example, Mc Donalds in the US sells burgers ,fries that have more of cheese and vegetables whereas in the UK, the burger may have bacon and is treated as a break fast while for the customers in India a spicy version is sold. Cultural differences impact how the product is designed, the product features, the marketing strategies. For example, children in the US may demand TV and movie influenced products whereas children in Japan demand electronic toys due to high influence of technology.
