VO2max is the maximum oxygen uptake of a person, which is a good indication of a person's aerobic capacity. VO2 reserve is the increment in oxygen consumption a person can achieve during exercise, so VO2max - VO2rest. The average sedentary female scores approximately 27 to 30 mL/kg/min. Elite female runners have scored up to 77 mL/kg/min.

This was calculated using the following equation:

50%VO2 = (VO2max – 3.5mL/kg/min)
