Drops calculation is very essential while administering cautious medications and infusions to the patient. The formula for calculating drops must be clear to all nurses in the clinical side.

the volume of the infusion x drop factor Drops per minute of an infusion = total time of the in minutes

Here,

The volume of the infusion= 6ml

Drop factor = 15 drops

Time for the infusion = 1 hr= 60 minutes

So substituting the values to the above equation,

Drops per minute of Diazepam infusion = 6 × 15 /60

   =1.5 drops

This means in one minute 1.5 drops should go to the patient and in two minutes 3 drops have to go to the patient.
