Question

4. If 27.35 mL of a 0.7044M solution of EDTA is used to titration a 10.0 mL aliquot of a solution containing Ca? and Mg2+ ion

I know the answer is 1.86 M, but I'm not sure how to get it.

Answer #1

So the dilution formula to find the molarity Ca2+ and Mg2+ is:

M1V1 = M2V2

Here M1= 0.7044M

V1= 27.35-1= 26.35ml as 1ml blank required.

M2=?

V2= 10ml

On substituting, M2= 26.35ml * 0.7044M/ 10ml= 1.86M
