Answer #1

Parents and children are instrumental in development of cultural identity.Parents incorporate culture and religion into the lives of the children . Even two year children begin to differentiate people by race , gender etc.

Diversity means differences in people coming from different backgrounds , social experiences, races , religion , lifestyle etc.Parents unintentionally become a powerful force to influence children ie to mould the attitudes and beliefs of children.Children also get influenced by their educators. Home plays a big role and so do educators. Children can be educated in colleges to understand the difference between what they are told at home and what they choose to believe.Children study with diverse peers in school and change their views about race and religion. They understand that diversity is good and this happened with me.Again the opposite view that diversity is not good is experienced by people . Women are discriminated in office from their male counterparts. This discrimination in sex happens in wage structure and their ability to work.

DMIS is developmental model of intercultural sensitivity was developed by Dr Milton Bennett .The DMIS consists of 6 stages ie denial, defense, minimization , acceptance ,adaptation and integration. We are at adaptation and integration stage.Adaptation enables a person to see the world from another person's eyes and change their behaviour accordingly.Integration means to help others understand different cultures and thus promote unity.
