National Provider Identifier (NPI): Unique identification number of 10 digits issued to health care providers in the United States by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

Place of Service Codes (POS codes) are two-digit codes placed on health care professional claims to indicate the setting in which a service was provided. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) maintain POS codes used throughout the health care industry. POS information is often needed to determine the acceptability of direct billing of Medicare, Medicaid and private insurance services provided by a given provider.
