  • Think about a product you like and use on a regular basis and the company that makes the product. What kinds of spinoff products might this company consider producing? What kinds of marketing research could you conduct to determine if this spinoff or expanded product offering may be successful in the marketplace? How can you ensure validity and credibility in your research? Should a product adjust its branding depending on which PLC it is in? Give an example.

Answer #1

A spinoff is the creation of an independent company through the sale or distribution of new shares of an existing business or division of a parent company. General Motors is a world renowned automobile brand in the world. In India, however it is not getting a market it wanted. General motors can spinoff it to have further ties with other manufacturers and create a new market for itself.

i will focus on both primary and secondary data. Primary data will be conducted through surveys, focus groups, interviews and observations. Secondary data is available for any such move already in the market. The validity can be tested with expert opinions and past experiences.

I think product will be able to adjust as India has huge market potential. Hence appeal, utility and value for money will matter for product in any stage of PLC(Product life cycle). Example Fiat was successful in launching Jeep even though it was struggling with cars like Linea and Punto in India.
