I have selected 'Prostate Cancer'

1.The paramount physiological concerns for a patient with Prostate Cancer includes :

a) Difficulty in urination-A very important concern for prostate cancer patients is the trouble and pain, they face while urinating .They often feel a burning sensation during urination.It is often seen that clients with Prostate cancer find it difficult to start urination .

b) Slight pain in the lower back ,hips and upper thighs is also a common physiological concern related to Prostate cancer. The clients may also have a pain around the pelvic area.

c) Erectile dysfunction can be taken as a symptom for Prostate cancer .This alone cannot serve as a direct indication.

• The feeling of not emptying the bladder can lead to sleep deprivation.This is directly linked with anxiety .Sleep deprivation can also cause mental perturbation and fatigue .
• Feeling dependent can be defeating and degrade one's self esteem.Being unaware of the prognosis can be challenging.The anxiety of clients can cause detrimental effects on the immune system as such and can delay recovery.
• Erectile dysfunction in clients can lead to a doubt in their sexual performance and can directly pave way to depression .Patients with this symptom may seem irritated and frustrated .
• The diagnosis of Prostate cancer can lead the client to a constant state of mental uneasiness and may trigger suicidal thoughts,if not attended with proper care.

It is always the nursing staff who is more connected with the client and his family ,than the doctor .The listening skill of a nurse should be improved so that she/he can understand what the client is trying to convey.Patients really value someone who lend ears to them.The nurse should have the knowledge and training to clear all the enquiries relating to the symptoms,pain related issues ,treatment ,surgery and after care.The nurse should handle the anxious relatives as well,because it is them who can impart emotional support to the patient .Patience is an inevitable quality that a nurse should posses so that they will not get frustrated by the actions of a non cooperative patient.Creating a friendly rapport with the client will help in building trust so that they will have a hope in the treatments carried out .All these approaches collectively taken by the nurse,can help the client to be devoid of panic attacks and to be in a stable psychological state.
