Question

Problem #5: Note that this question along with all other problems that dont have the Minitab symbol beside them should be done by hand. Consider the following data, 42, 66,47,49,47,68, 46, 68, 42, 50 (a) Draw a stem and leaf plot including depths using intervals of length 5. (See p. 19 of the lab manual for an explanation of depths). Enter the value of the depths only in the answer box below For example if your stem-and-leaf plot looked like Minitab Output #6 on page 19 of the lab manual, then you would enter the following numbers into the answer box: 8, 36, 20, 44, 21, 5, 1 (b) Calculate the mean. (c) Calculate the sample variance. (d) Calculate the range (e) Calculate the coefficient of variation Problem #5(a): Must be 6 whole numbers separated by depths, separated with commas commas Problem #5(b): mean (rounded to 2 decimals) Problem #5(c): sample variance (rounded to 2 decimals) Problem # S(d): range coefficient of variation trounded to 2 decimals) Problem #5(e): Just Save L 1 Submit Problem #5 for Grading

I am not sure about the depths, it is asking for a total of six values, separated by commas!

Answer #1

(a) The Step-by-Step instructions to obtain Stem and Leaf Plot using Technology. Enter the data into the Minitab18 worksheet * Click on Graph → Stem-and-Leaf. * Select the vari able into the graph variables box. Enter the value of the incrementis 5 * Click ok. The Stem and Leaf Plot

Stem-and-Leaf Display: X Stem-and-leaf of X N Leaf Unit = 1.0 10 2 4 22 (4) 4 6779 3 6 688

Interpretation:

The stem-and-leaf plot display enables that the distribution of the depths (X) is skewed to the right. Since, the mean is greater than that of the median. The shape of the distribution can be illustrated well by the stem-and-leaf plot.

(d) The formula for calculating the range is Range = Maximum-Minimum → 68-42 26 Range = 26] Therefore, the range is R -26 e) The formula for cal culating the coefficient of vari ati on is CV=-x100 10.56462 52.5 10.56462 52.5 x100 ×100 0.201231x100 20.12308% CV~ 20.12%) Therefore, the coefficient of variation is C, = 20.121

4- Variance and Standard deviation (how far the data values lie from the mean) The mean, mode, and median do a nice job in telling where the center of the data set is, but often we are interested in more. For example, a pharmaceutical engineer develops a new drug that regulates iron in the blood. Suppose she finds out that the average sugar content after taking the medication is the optimal level. This does not mean that the drug is...
