A Well-Meaning Grandmother
You hear some coworkers talking about a woman who is the caregiver for her young granddaughter. The granddaughter had an ear infection and was prescribed a liquid oral antibiotic. Later that day the grandmother called the clinic. She wanted to know what she should do about the extra medicine that wouldn’t stay in her daughter’s ear after she poured the dose in. Your coworkers are laughing about this, presumably at the grandmother’s lack of knowledge.
Critical Thinking Question
With your knowledge of health literacy, how would you assess this situation and what would you say to your coworkers?
Most important in this situation is that she is giving extra care for her granddaughter means she is very very careful lady. May be she is not aware of medicine and it's route of ingestion, due to which she asked such a question.
As per your upper paragraph, doctor prescribed liquid oral antibiotic means either suspension or solution. But it is very dangerous if my coworkers is giving that medicine through ear. Hence as I know health literacy , first i understand her side then I'll explained all the critical things in that and explained.her in well manner.
I will say my coworkers is that this is not the correct way to make joking and laughing at lady coworkers because everyone is not perfect. Regarding medicine everyone is in confusion some time so late them clear.
