Gait belt is an assistive device which is used to help a patient to sit, stand, and move around. This is a safety device that that can also be used to transfer patient from bed to wheel chair. This belt is worn around the waist of the patient and the nurse grabs the belt to allow the patient to stand steady while walking around. This is one of the best ways to prevent accidental falls. It is also helpful for the caregiver as it reduces her chance of injury to back and neck as well and is less stressful. A gait belt is generally used in patients who still have partial mobility. It should not be used to lift or move patients entirely.
