As per the statement " carbohydrates can cause you to become fat", i strongly believe the statement is true with a high intake of carbohydrate in diet more than body requirement.Physiologically the excess carbohydrates get converted to fat and get stored as fat in adipose tissues of body in absence of ample activity. As exercise is the need of time for the fats to be utilised as energy in body during activity.
So the overall opinion on this diet i feel is more of fat and protien which has to be cut off to half of the portion and more of activity to utilise the excess fat stored in body could help the family to maintain the BMI as required .
