10.5 Functional classes of receptors & the type of
stimuli each one responds to: Chemo, mechano...etc
10.6 Everything about Cold/Warm/Hot receptors/ Menthol &
Capsaicin/ Acute & Chronic itch
10.7 Number of the neurons that deliver a sensory impulse to the
brain sensory cortex
10.8 Relation between receptor density and two-point threshold.
10.5 -Sensory receptors are the nerve endings that responsds to a stimulus in the external and internal environment of an organism . In response to stimuli it initiates sensory transduction by creating graded potentials or action potential in the same cell or in adjacent one .
5 types of sensory receptors
chemoreceptors. stimulated by changes in the chemical concentration of substances.
pain receptors. stimulated by tissue damage.
thermoreceptors. stimulated by changes in temperature.
mechanoreceptors. stimulated by changes in pressure or movement.
photoreceptors. stimulated by light energy.
10.6- Thermoreceptors are non -specialised sense receptors that codes absolute and relative changes in temperature. They are present all over the body . Cold receptors are more than hot receptors . Each receptor is triggered by a specific stimulus . Thermoreceptora detects temperature changes . We are equipped with some thermoreceptors that are activated by cold conditions and others by heat . Warm receptors will turn up their signals when they fell arm and vice versa with cold receptors .
10.7- 10 to 20 million number of neurons that delivers a sensory impulse to brain
