Suspicious activity report or SAR is helpful tool in monitoring the suspicious or illegal or unusual transactions of an individual or a company by a financial institution, SAR activity transactions are not ordinary in nature , these transactions are not reported in any other type of reports , SAR activity is done only if the financial institution found any unusual, illegal or suspicious activity without the consent of the customer and these are generally investigated by the special investigation teams, in order to find out money laundering, financial frauds, insider trading and terrorist activities.
As per above definition and explanation, i think that SAR activities are mostly illegal and it includes some kind of criminal activities.
