Answer #1

ANSWER.

3) Calculation of amount needed.

          Formula = Desired dose/Dose in hand * Quantity.

       Here

          Desired dose(D) = 20 mg.

          Dose in hand (H) = 50 mg.

               Quantity(Q) = 1ml.

   As per above formula

       Amount of drug required = D/H * Q

                                               = 20/50 * 1

                                               = 0.4 ml.

   * Safe dose = 1-2 mg/kg.

     Weight of the the child = 35 pounds

      Convert pound to kg for calculation.

                  1 pound = 0.45 kg.

    So

       Weight of the child = 35 * 0.45

                                      = 15.8 kg.

    Safe dose for a child with 15.8 kg body weight = 1*15.8 - 2* 15.8

                                                                               = 15.8mg - 31.6mg.

     * Ordered dose(20mg) is safe for this child.

4) Calculation of the amount required.

            Formula = Desired dose/Dose in hand * Quantity.

       Here

          Desired dose(D) = 54 mg.

          Dose in hand(H) = 50 mg.

              Quantity(Q) = 1 ml.

As per formula

      Amount of drug required = D/H * Q

                                             = 54/50 * 1

                                             = 1.08 ml.

* Safe dose = 10mg/kg/dose Q 8 hours.

   Weight of the infant = 5.5 kg.

   Safe dose for an infant with 5.5 kg = 10*5.5

                                                           = 55 mg/dose Q8 hours.

    * Ordered dose(54mg) is safe for this infant.
