Answer #1

The oral medications are coming in a strength which is commonly prescribed dose for most of the patients, but sometimes the medication needs to be administered half of the strength of available doses. If the prescription written is not clear or confusing with the strength of the medication, the patient may receive an incorrect dosage.

For example, We have to prescribe a tablet x for a patient. The tablet is coming in strength of 100 mg, but the patient has to be prescribed with 150 mg tablet. Thus the patient need to take one full tablet and a half of the tablet together. If we are writing it as 1.5 tablet in the prescription, it may leads to misinterpretation and the reader may read it as 15 tablets. So, to avoid this error which leads to wrong dosage of medication, it can be written as take one and a half tablets. It will be more understandable than writing 1.5 tablets.

Thus, the correct pharmacological form to write 1.5 tablet is one and a half tablets.
