- Anesthesia

state of unconsciousness produced by a controlled, reversible intoxication of CNS

- Anesthetist

any person trained to administer anesthesia

- Anesthesiology

the study of anesthesia

- Anesthesiologist

a veterinarian who specializes in anesthesia

- Sedative

agent that calms nervousness, excitement, and irritability

- Sedation

mild degree of CNS depression (patient is awake but calm)

- Analgesia

relief from pain and control of pain

- General Anesthesia

GA- produces loss of consciousness, given to patient throw intravenous (IV) or inhalation (mask): vital signs, heart rate, breathing rate, pulse, and blood pressure monitored

- Regional Anesthesia

nerve block. interrupts pain sensation in certain part of the body. injected into the nerve. remains conscious.

- Local Anesthesia

loss of sensation in one localized part of the body. remains conscious. injection or IV. such as dental or dermatologic

- Topical Anesthesia

uses paste or gel on specific area. remains conscious. used for skin, cornea, and mucous membranes in dental surgery
