Explain how over-pumping auqifiers around the world is in our best intrest

Aquifers are the biggest source of fresh and usable water. It fulfills the need of water in agriculture, domestic and industries in various parts of the world where surface water is not present. Pumping aquifers at a greater rate than it is replenished causes its depletion. Some of the negative effects of aquifers depletion are:

1. As the water level lowers in the table, more energy is required to pump it to the surface.

2. Lakes, rivers and streams are also connected to aquifers . When there will be a depletion of aquifers, than these sources will also be diminished.

3. Over pumping in coastal areas can make the salt water move in ground resulting in contamination of water.

4. Land subsidence may also occur due to the depletion of aquifers.
