You are the nurse assessing an Orthodox Jewish client
with peptic ulcer. The client is strictly religious and refuses to
eat the food provided at the health care facility.
Describe how you would further assess and provide care
for this client.
What steps could you take to increase your cultural
competence, if you were not familiar with this faith?
Peptic ulcers are open sores which are formed on the lining of the effected organs where the acid eats away the protecting mucous layer which is present on the organs such as stomach, small intestine, esophagus.
I would ask the patient about his symptoms, and pain levels he is experiencing and if he have any symptoms such as vomtings, diarrhea, constipation and heartburn.I would also ask about Jesus diet because he is refisref to eat the food provided by the hospital.I would explain that meat, alcohol and spicy food causes irritation to the stomach and there are dietery restriction is ptesenp for peptic ulcers. So I would know about his debut and notify the food services and provide the diet which will be good to his Jewish dietery laws.
2)Cultural complexity is seen everywhere.
So I would first recognise that culture extend beyond outer appearance.
I would politely ask about the patient cultural background.
I would respect their culture and their ways and make them feel like home.
I would take patients references and expections into consideration.
I would provide care to the patients by considering their culture.
