Pregnant women are often encouraged to prepare for childbirth, but should preparation be required? What are the advantages and disadvantages of treating childbirth as a medical condition with constant medical care led by doctors and healthcare providers? Should birth preparation be a part of this type of care or can mothers handle this preparation on their own?

Women in earliers days were not only physically fit and active but also emotionally strong with good family support, care ,affections ,elders supervising them at home to lead to good quality delivery period and help them to deliver a healthy baby. Even in postpartum period they were cared by the close members of the family but this is not the scenario in today's life where sedentary life is common with very few or no physical activity, stress and strain in handling difficult situations, immaturity, lack of knowledge, risky pregnancy or a precious delivery ,nuclear family, infection,etc., hence making them to get prepared for their childbirth in a systematic way under good medical supervision. In order to avoid these they are encouraged to prepare for childbirth. The main advantage of it are

• Helps to identify any birth defects earlier
• To deliver a healthy baby
• High risk pregnancy can be handled effectively and successfully
• Neonatal complications can be handled immediately

The disadvantages of it are

• Needs a healthcare professionals
• Periodic screenings and tome spent on it
• Cost

In order to have a safe delivery birth preparation should be a part of it. Lack of knowledge, awareness or experience can create fatal status so mothers can seek medical help rather than opting for preparation on their own.
