Warfarin is the anticoagulant use for the patient with history of blood clots that form in veins, arteries, heart etc. It is also known as blood thinner.
It acts by inhibiting the clotting protein synthesis by preventing regeneration of vitamin k. Blocking vitamin k prevents blood clot formation thus delaying fibrin formation.
It is available in tablet and injection formulation.
Parents on warfarin therapy must go for green leafy vegetables and should restrict alcohol.
