PATIENT WITH LIMITED MOBILITY

It is the limitation in independent purposeful physical movement of the body or extremities .Limited movement affect activities of daily living.So evaluate the patients abilities to do these daily and safely.

While caring a patient with limited mobility these are important points to be kept in mind

• Identify the barriers to mobility
• evaluate the need for asistive devices
• execute abdominal tightening,stand on toes,knee bend exercises
• promote and facilitate early ambulation as possible
• demonstrate the use of mobility devices such as crutches ,trapeze ,walkers
• give positive reinforcement during activity
• encourage resistance training exercises
• keep the limbs in functional alignment

BEDRIDDEN PATIENTS

A bedridden patient usually requires full time care and attention.During absolute bed est muscle mass decreases up to 5% per day.

While caring bedridden patient the following are the major points to be kept in mind

• check the skin integrity for redness and ischemia
• Note for progressive thrombophlebitis
• clean,dry,moisturize the skin,use embolic stockings,use pressure reliving devices
• execute passive exercise
• Turn the position every 2 hours as needed
• Encourage deep breathing exercises ,use of spirometer
• Adequate nutrition to keep the energy level
• Use diversional activities and emotional support
