R protein is the protein produced by salivary glands in the mounth, It produces Haptocorrin vitamin B12 cmplex which protects vitamin B12 from acidic effects of the stomach.

B12 binds to R protein in stomach in the presence of HCL juice.

Terminal Ileum - B12 binds to intrinsic factor

Vitamin B₁₂is bound to protein in food and is cleaved from protein by the hydrochloric acid produced by the gastric mucosa. Thereafter it is available for absorption.
