A 21-year-old patient is admitted to the ED with a possible injury to the thoracic spine as a result of a motor vehicle accident. He and his friends were in a car race on the highway when he hit his vehicle against another and overturned. He is very angry, crying and has severe pain. When you walk into the treatment room, you find his girlfriend yelling at him for being "stupid" and crying hysterically. His father and mother are on the way as they want to accompany him. They come from another city and are expected to arrive in about 3 hours.
1.What should you do when you enter the room to evaluate this patient?
Which members of the health team can you call to help you in this situation and why?
2.During the evaluation that you will carry out on the patient, what is your priority and why?
3.When the parents arrive several hours later, they ask to see the doctor, who is busy with another patient.
4. How would you respond to them when you are also very busy with multiple patients?.
5. What other member of the interprofessional team could you contact to help you in this family situation? 5.What leadership initiatives to maintain quality and safety would you use in this situation? You can search for the Joint Commission's National Security Goals.
Subject is Medical Surgical
I need response by 3.16.20 by 10 PM EST . Please include bibliografy with response and any literature I can review and research to expand on the subject and be able to respond to clasmeates on the subject . I really appreciate your help.
Kind regards
1. As I enter the room I would explain them that we need to evaluate the patient and tell his girlfriend to wait outside as we are going to do a thorough checkup of the patient and for this i would call healthcare members like nursing aides , physiotherapist etc to take help from them in order to move the patient side and back as he had severe injury because of which he can't move himself .
2. During the evaluation that I will carry out on the patient, my priority would be to assess the patient thoroughly and find out the any physical injury that is caused by accident without causing pain to the patient because already the patient is in pain so I don't want to add on it and also to find out the cause behind his pain so that necessary interventions can be taken .
3. When the parents arrive several hours later, they ask to see the doctor, who is busy with another patient , I would explain them to wait for him as he is busy with another patients. Once he is done with that patient he would be see you ,till then I would explain them the necessary information about the patient and his admission.
4. Being a healthcare workers ,we need to see all the patients in the alloted time of duty hours . I would respond to them that I am busy with other patients right know ,will reach out to you once I am done with theses patients, until and unless any emergency situation persists .
