Triaging means distribution of medical resources to patients.

Triage in disaster is categorized into:

a) Priority 1(Red triage tag):Those patients who can be saved but whose lives are in immediate danger, requiring treatment immediately or within a few hours

b) Priority 2 or delayed(Yellow triage tag):Those whose lives are not in immediate danger but who need urgent but not immediate medical care

c) Priority 3 or minimal (green triage tag):Those requiring only minor treatment.

d) Those who are psychologically traumatized and might need reassurance or sedation if acutely disturbed (no specific triage tag)

e) No priority or expectant(Black triage tag):Those who have severe injuries and are unlikely to survive even if extensive treatment is provided.

Triage in emegency department:

a)Category 1:Resuscitation:eg:heart attack,major car acccident and doctor has to see the patient within seconds.

b)Category 2:Emergency:eg:Severe blood loss,drug overdose and doctor has to see the patient within 10 minutes.

c)Category 3:Urgent:eg:Head injury(conscious),breathing difficulties,infection and doctor has to see the patient within 30 minutes.

d)Category 4:Semi urgent :eg:Sprained ankle with possible fracture,eye infalmmmation and doctor has to see the p atient within 1 hour.

e)Category 5:Non urgent:eg:Cut not requiring stitches,common cold and the doctor has tosee the patient within 2 hours.
