LEAN MANAGEMENT

Lean management refers to a technique developed with the aim of minimising the process waste and maximising the value of the product or service to the customer, without compromising the quality.

Principles

  1. Value- identify value. Lean teams constantly review their product and service from the eyes of the customer.
  2. Value stream - map the value stream. Evaluate each process that leads toward the end of the goal.
  3. Flow- create flow. In this they are finding ways to maximize effectiveness and reducing waste.
  4. Pull- establish pull. here focus is directed on a more sensible product, saving cost, space, time and resources.
  5. Perfection-Seek perfection. Identifies areas of improvement and implements meaningful change, seeking the most efficient processes to bring the greatest value to the customer.

THE PROCESS THUS CONTINUES IN A CYCLICAL MANNER.

In the health care industry, the principles are used effectively in a cyclical manner in order to improve the quality of care provided to the patient.

  1. value- the health care team members, constantly review the care provided to the patient by collecting proper feedback from them.
  2. value stream - the health care team members evaluate each and every step of care provided. it starts from the assessment phase itself, that will be continued through out process such as diagnosis, setting goal, planning interventions, implementation and evaluation.
  3. flow- maintaining the flow of care is very important. the break in the continuity of care leads to lack of patient satisfaction, and lead to waste of resources.
  4. pull - it aims at the saving of cost, resources and the time.
  5. perfection- identifies area which needs improvement in care and brings changes that help the sector to provide quality care.

the process should be continued through out.
