Pre-k is for children below the age of five in California:

Pre-k English Language Arts Skills.

In this age children learn the letter and alphabet and how to pronounce them. They get to know that words can be made by combining sounds and letter to make any word and that is how they can make a sentence, and they learn how to write alphabets and to read small words.

In Pre K students learn to listen stories and poems and children story books and some informative books and then they talk to their classmates and learn to talk many new words and get new ideas and gain knowledge with experince as they grow, they learn various things like words,fluency and vocabulary, a child learns about basic facts and ideas about what they have read, heard or viewed.

1st grade is for children 6-7 years old in California:

In this age students learn how to add or substract mainly math like basic geometry and graphs, how to read a clock and calender. In 1st grade they teach about the fundamentals like reading sentences, writing, alphabets and students are taught to be able to read and write fluently and students are also taught about history and civics and they also taught about science like earth materials, animals.
