Describe in detail the historical development of Counseling as a profession and its current impact on Managed Care?

Counselling psychology

It is a speciality in psychology that focuses on working for several broad domains.

In the United States, counselling psychology was started after world war ii, after war there was a need for vocational training and placement, later in 1940s and 1950s a speciality in counseling psychology was developed by veterans administration and a separate psychology section was formed called American psychological association. The society started showing interest toward training and education in this field and various psychologist, students and professionals started working on them,

In 1970s

New initiative was taken such as working with women, disabled persons, and minorities., By keeping them in mind HELPING SKILLS PROGRAMS were formed ,these programs was formed to taught basic skills to professional and non professionals , after that state Licensor program was formed .

The university that was established first was University of Minnesota, ,

In recent 10 years as a profession counselling psychology has expanded and emerged in various parts of the world ,

Historical impact on current time is after the celebration of 50th anniversary of counseling psychology it was realised that it's changing process and with increase in technology , innovation of media, trauma, stress, competition etc will also change the criteria for counsellors, and a new era was begun, in 2010 Webber and Mascari were dealing with the topics violence, crisis, trauma, justice etc,

In 2019 also trauma, stress, crisis, social injustice, technology advancements,are at the peak and need of counsellors are increasing enormously, depression is one of the major problems which is affecting many countries and need of counselling is increased ,more and more professional counsellors seek to encourage wellness, preventive, wellness enhancing, a positive state of well being, concern for justice.

These techniques of counselling was evolved from the historical era and it is being continued.
