Ferrous sulphate is one of the essential body mineral .it is commonly used as an iron supplement mainly to treat iron deficiency anemia .
The main side effect which is necessary to monitor when taking ferrous sulphate is the constipation .The cause of constipation is the iron itself which present in ferrous sulphate ,not the other added ingredients. If we take 300 milligrams (mg) of ferrous sulphate ,we get 60 milligrams of iron from our each dose .
Iron is hard to the digestive system and cause constipation and upset stomach. The iron present in the ferrous sulphate disturb the normal balance of the microbes in the digestive tract .this will slow down the peristalsis movement ,which normally leads to longer bowel retention and cause more water uptake (cause dryer feaces) which finally leads to constipation .
To prevent constipation : take plenty of fluids ,consider fiber rich diet and wholegrains ,try to be more physically active .
