• Protiens- biuld maintain tissue
• Vitamin- regulate the vital process
• Minerals- part of teeth and bones
• Water- transport materials to and from cells

*Digestion is the mechanical and chemical process breaks food down to release nutrients in forms your body can absorb for use. It takes place in the stomach.

* The first nutrient is broken down during digestion is carbohydrates The breakdown starts in the mouth it results in carbohydrates changing to sugar.

*Peristalsis is the muscle action of the esophagus that helps the food pass into the stomach.

*The proteins and fats break down in the stomach. It takes about 3-5 hours or up to 12 hours and goes through the small intestine. Then 3 types of digestive juices act on the chyme as they break down.

*Basal metabolism is the minimum amount of energy needed to maintain basic body process.
