The Study will find out how the students of the world citi collage Quezon City prevented the spread of COVID-19 during the second semester 19-20. Prepare five objectives why you want to work on this research
1- To determine what COVID-19 is. COVID-19 is the name given by the World Health Organization (WHO) on February 11, 2020 for the disease caused by the novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 or “severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2. It started in Wuhan, China in late 2019 and has since spread worldwide. COVID-19 is an acronym that stands for coronavirus disease of 2019. Coronaviruses are a group of related viruses that cause diseases in mammals and birds. Human coronaviruses were first discovered in the late 1960s.The earliest ones discovered were an infectious bronchitis virus in chickens and two in human patients with the common cold (later named human coronavirus 229E and human coronavirus OC43). It is named for the crown-like spikes on their surface. ). In humans, coronaviruses cause respiratory tract infections that can be mild, such as some cases of the common cold (among other possible causes, predominantly rhinoviruses), and others that can be lethal, such as SARS, MERS (Middle East Respiratory Syndrome), and COVID-19.
2- To find out how one gets contaminated with COVID-19. The virus does not have the capability to spread by itself, it is a common saying that “the virus walks with people’s legs” i.e. the disease spreads from person to person. COVID-19 spreads mainly by droplets produced as a result of coughing or sneezing of an infected person. This can happen in two ways :Direct close contact: one can get the infection by being in close contact with COVID-19 patients (within one Metre of the infected person), especially if they do not cover their face when coughing or sneezing. Indirect contact: the droplets survive on surfaces and clothes, furniture, utensils, public places for many days. Therefore, touching any such infected surface or cloth and then touching one’s mouth, nose or eyes can result in getting infected with the disease. The incubation period of COVID 19 (time between getting the infection and showing symptoms) is 1 to 14 days. There are instances reported that infected person can stay without any symptoms for many days but still act as carriers of the disease.
3- The symptoms of one contaminated with COVID-19. The most common symptoms of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) are fever, tiredness, and dry cough. Some patients may also have a runny nose, sore throat, nasal congestion and aches and pains or diarrhoea. As the disease mainly affects the upper respiratory system severe breathing difficulty is also reported in severe conditions. The elderly and people with underlying medical problems like high blood pressure, heart problems or diabetes, or chronic respiratory conditions, are at a greater risk of serious illness from Covid-19.
4- What preventive measures can be done to avoid the spread of COVID-19?
Practice Social Distancing: Avoid gatherings such as meetings, gatherings in religious places, social functions etc.
· Maintain a safe distance of at least one Metre between people when in public places to avoid direct droplet contact.
· Stay at home as much as possible.
· Avoid physical contact like handshakes, hand holding or hugs.
· Avoid touching surfaces such as table tops, chairs, door handles etc.)
· Practice good hand hygiene - Wash your hands frequently using soap and water: It need to be practised after coming home from outside or meeting other people especially if they are ill. After having touched your face, coughing or sneezing. Before preparing food, eating or feeding children. Before and after using toilet, cleaning etc.
· While coughing or sneezing cover your nose and mouth with handkerchief/ towel/ tissue etc. Wash the handkerchief daily It is preferable to cough/sneeze into your bent elbow rather than your palms.
· Do not spit or shout in public places to avoid the spread of droplets.
· Do not touch your eyes, nose and mouth with unclean hands.
· Ensure that the surfaces and objects are regularly cleaned and sanitise.
5- To determine how to handle people under investigation and people under monitoring immediate family members.
As the outbreak continues to evolve the only way to prevent introduction of the disease to new areas or to reduce human-to-human transmission. Public health measures to achieve these goals include quarantine, which involves the restriction of movement or separation of healthy individuals who may have been exposed to the virus, from the rest of the population, with the objective of monitoring symptoms and the early detection of cases. Both people under investigation and people under monitoring need to be quarantined from immediate family members to check the spread. Home quarantine is the most suitable way to for people under investigation and monitoring. While being in quarantine please follow the steps for the safety
· Stay in a separate room at home, if possible with an attached/separate toilet.
· Try to maintain a distance of at least 1 meter from others
· Wear a mask at all times. If masks are not available, take a clean cotton cloth, fold it into a double layer and tie it on your face to cover your nose and mouth
· Use separate dishes, towels, bedding etc. which should be cleaned separately
· The surfaces such as floor, table tops, chairs, door handles etc. should be cleaned once a day
· Make sure that only one assigned family member is the caretaker
Advice for the care taker
· Keep a distance of one metre when entering the room.
· Wear a mask or cover your face with double layered cotton cloth
· Wash your hands after coming out of the room
