Case 6-13
Falsification of Information on Employment Application
Jeremy is the director of the HIM Department. Laura, a transcriptionist, has been a wonderful employee. Through the grapevine, Jeremy heard that Laura had put on her employment application that she had an associate’s degree, but that she did not actually have one. He called the college and found that she was 2 classes short of her degree. This was grounds for dismissal.
Evaluate the above and answer the following:
Ans.) When an employer found that his employee showed false information and documents about his/her candidature to fulfill the essential requirement of a job, the employer has every right to fire him/her. The employer has appointed the worker by going into an agreement with the employee dependent on data gave in the employee's application. The application is a legal document which is the reason the application is vital despite the fact that one have presented a resume. In the event that a portion of these realities happen not to be valid, at that point the employee has distorted himself to the employer and the agreement can be viewed as invalid. Lying about qualification can as well prompt to termination depending on what the lie was about. For instance, posting the wrong year of graduating from school/college would not be as grave as asserting one has earned a degree that he/she did not get.
But the mentioned case is a serious one as here, Laura, a transcriptionist is 2 classes short of her degree that is required for her current job. Though, on the other hand she is an efficient employee too.
In this situation, at first Jeremy has to talk Laura personally to know her view about this. May be she is mistakenly did this. She herself is not aware about the essential qualification of the job. Or maybe she is hiding the fact intentionally. So it is necessary to talk to her before informing the management about this.
Jeremy should handle the meeting with Laura very carefully and in a cooperative manner. No need to be furious at her. At first he should listen to her then decide anything.
