Health Consequences of gender based violence are :-
1. Physical consequences include injuries ,functional impairments , permanent disabilities .
2. Psycho-somatic consequences include chronic pain syndrome ,irritable bowel syndrome, gastrointestinal disorders ,urinary tract infections , respiratory disorders .
3. Consequences for reproductive health include pelvic inflammatory disease , sexually transmitted disease, unwanted pregnancy , miscarriage etc
4. Psychological consequences include post traumatic stress disorder, depression , fear ,panic disorders ,eating disorders ,low self esteem ,suicidal tendencies etc.
2. Impact of gender based violence on economy :-
No country can afford gender-based violence. For example In Bangladesh, the costs of gender-based violence are estimated at 2.1 percent of the country’s GDP. Each day, violence stops a girl from going to school and prevents a woman from taking a job, compromising their future and the economic and social development of their communities. Basically it wants to state that gender based violence affects majority of the population and hence affects the productivity of a country .
3. Methods to prevent gender based violence are :-
- Funding women's full participation in civil society.
- Scaling up prevention efforts that address unequal gender power relations as a root cause of gender based violence
- Bringing gender based violence clinical services to lower level health facilities
- Addressing the needs of child survivors , including interventions to disrupt the gender based violence cycle
- Developing guidance for building systems to eliminate gender based violence
- Developing support programs
