A production function relates physical output of a production process to physical inputs or factors of production. It shows the maximum output that can be produced using different combinations of inputs. It is derived by plotting various quantity of bricks laid corresponding to different quantity of workers. All the points are joined by a curve and this is our production function.

Marginal product of labor is the change in total output as one additional unit of input is added in production.

Formula for marginal product of labor= change in total output / change in labor units
