B. Purpose:

1. Removes unwanted materials (air and/or fluid) from the pleural cavity

2. Re-establish negative pressure in the pleural space

3.Promote re-expansion of lung tissue

c.No bubbling in water seal bottle means either the drain is blocked or the pleural space is healed and sealed—must be verified by X-ray!
