A patient is to receive an experimental treatment. The physician has been in to explain the procedure, and the patient has signed the consent form. In doing an assessment before the procedure, the patient states, “I really didn’t understand what the doctor told me, except he said I should get better. I hope I do get better.” Discuss what your responsibility as an RN is at this point. Ensure to include what questions would you ask the patient and what questions would you ask your supervisor or manager if the patient had significant unease about the impending procedure?
For any diagnostic procedure or surgery the patient has to undergo ,it is important that the consent is obtained by the patient.
The consent form should be checked by the Registered Nurse.
The procedure should be well explained by the Physician by clarifying the doubts. And as a witness to it the patient or the attenders or registered Nurse signs in the form as witness.
Here in this case the patient complains that he has not understood anything what the doctor has explained but he is hoping to have good result. It is important that patient understands the procedure well before the procedure.
In this case it is the duty of the Registered Nurse to clarify all the details to the patient.

The most powerful patient engagement motivator is the patient-physician relationship itself. When patients have been out of touch with their provider for some time, alerts about the need to see their doctor can engage patients and get them started down the road to better health. By leveraging the patient-physician relationship, providers can encourage patients to change their health behavior, and often produce the desired result. While patient engagement is essential to improving health outcomes, the lack of such engagement is...

A Routine Endoscopic Procedure Our mother usually had an endoscopic procedure every 2 years. We thought that she had too many visits with her gastroenterologist. She saw the gastroenterologist about every 30 or 60 days. When we asked the physician why our mother had to come in on a continuous basis, his response was “acid reflux.” She was taking a proton pump inhibitor for her acid reflux. Our mother had an endoscopy of her upper gastrointestinal tract in September 2006....
The case is that of a 35 year old white, single, female who was found on her bed stuporous and moaning by her father and mother with whom she lives. There was a note in the room written by her explaining that she had carefully considered her life and what was happening to her and that she wanted to die. There was evidence in the bathroom that she had most likely taken three bottles of different pills including barbiturates. The...
